MOSCOW, Sep 11 - PRIME, Natalya Karnova. The Chinese authorities intend to ban the trade in bitcoins domestically. According to Bloomberg sources, the ban will only apply to exchange trading using Internet platforms. According to them, the authorities do not plan to stop over-the-counter transactions.

This is not the first attack of the Celestial authorities on cryptocurrency. In early September, they banned the initial placement of cryptocurrency tokens (ICO, Initial Coin Offering). All ICOs conducted at that time had to be immediately suspended. The People’s Bank of China has promised to punish those who will conduct placements in the future, and also threatened fines to those who have already conducted ICOs.

In Russia, the regulation of cryptocurrencies has not yet been introduced. The authorities intend to recognize it in the form of goods or means of payment already in 2018. However, judging by the latest news, this recognition will prove to be with limitations very similar to Chinese ones. The Ministry of Finance intends to allow cryptocurrency trading only on the Moscow Exchange and only to qualified investors, said Alexey Moiseev, the deputy head of the ministry in late August. According to the agency, this will help protect vulnerable categories of investors and close channels for laundering a tool on the cryptocurrency market.

"In light of tightening control over ICOs around the world (for example, in the USA and Singapore, authorities have already issued a warning about high risks associated with Initial Coin Offering), it seems that the world is gradually approaching the need to develop a clear legal framework," the executive director believes Crypto Commission Surana Radnaeva.
